The Management Team
Gary T. Gerber, P.E. - President
and Professional Engineer.
Responsibilities: Responsible for
overseeing all aspects of Sun Light & Power; negotiates
with vendors on materials; provides vision and strategic
direction for management team. Also provides engineering
expertise and acts as the troubleshooter of last resort.
BIO: A pioneer in the fields of solar
thermal and solar electric system design, Gary is among
a handful of survivors who have worked in the solar energy
community since the Carter Presidency. His over 30 years
of experience in these fields serve as an invaluable resource
for the already experienced Sun Light & Power construction
crews. Gary teaches architects, engineers and homeowners
about renewable energy systems in classes held at the Building
Education Center (www.bldgeductr.org)
and Foothill/DeAnza College. Gary has served on the Board
of Directors of Architects, Designers, Planners for Social
Responsibility (www.adpsr-norcal.org)
since 1996 and currently sits on the Board for the California
Solar Energy Industry Association (www.cseia.org)
and Build it Green, a state-wide green building non-profit.
On July 22nd, 2005, Gary was featured in the East Bay
Business Times list of Fastest Growing Private Companies
as SL&P ranked number ten. He has been published in
the Journal of Light Construction. His most recent
solar related feature article will be published in October,
2005.
Martin Pedley - Chief Operating Officer
Responsibilities: In charge of the day-to-day
management of Sun Light and Power, overseeing all facets
of our operation.
BIO: Martin attended high school and
college in the Bay Area, receiving a BA in economics from
Stanford University. He received his MBA from Harvard University.
While at Stanford, he was captain of the varsity swim team
and became an American record holder, NCAA champion, and
a masters world record holder. He has years of experience
working for various high tech companies and helped launch
start-ups in both the Silicon Valley and San Diego. His
wife, Kim, a former All American swimmer, is a fused glass
artist. He has both a son and a daughter in college. He
resides in Berkeley.
John O'Connor - Operations Manager.
Responsibilities: Responsible for overseeing all
photovoltaic project installations and crewmembers; troubleshooting
electrical issues; teaching P.V. University (our internal
training course); works closely with our Sales Manager
to assure that the crews have a steady inflow of work.
BIO: Mr. O'Connor is a journeyman level electrician
and licensed electrical C-10 contractor, with over 15 years
experience, including nine years as O'Connor Electric.
John trains and oversees the photovoltaic crews to assure
that projects are built on time, within budget and according
to the National Electrical Code requirements. Mr. O'Connor
is a natural born instructor and has taught a two-day hands-on
course, "Women in Solar", at the Solar Living
Institute in Hopland, CA. John served on the Board of Directors
of Build It Green (www.build-green.org),
a green building resource program of which Sun Light & Power
was a founding member. John is a multi-talented musician
who has played guitar and saxophone in Bay Area bands for
many years.
Blake Gleason, P.E. - Engineering Manager
Responsibilities: Blake is responsible
for major engineering projects and coordinates the work
of the 6 person engineering team.
BIO: possesses a California Professional
Engineer license, a California C-10 Electrical License,
and is NABCEP Solar PV Installer® Certified. Blake
grew up in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC.
He received his Bachelor of Science in engineering at Harvard
University and a Master’s degree from Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to coming to SL&P,
he worked in research and development in several fields
and holds a patent in 3-D printing. Blake says what he
likes about working at Sun Light and Power is: “The
people, their personalities and their commitment to all
kinds of positive and fascinating endeavors, including
renewable energy pursuits.” Blake enjoys bicycling
as well as rock climbing, hiking, and backcountry skiing
in the California wilderness. He and his partner of 12
years, Lynsay, reside in Berkeley. She is a human rights
attorney for Justice Now, a prison abolition non-profit
organization in Oakland.
Eric Nyman - Sales Manager.
Responsibilities: Responsible for building and
inspiring our sales team; monitoring sales activity; making
presentations to architects and non-profit organizations;
improving sales processes and working on large-scale commercial
sales projects.
BIO: Eric was asked to join Sun Light & Power
due to his extensive sales training and team-building experience.
His twenty-plus years in Sales Management includes thirteen
at The North Face and several as a Division Manager, a
position which required him to oversee eleven stores nationwide
and more than one hundred employees. Eric trains and oversees
our sales department, develops incentive programs and sells
commercial PV systems. A high-energy outdoorsman, Eric
is an avid backpacker and alpinist who has made a life-long
commitment to environmental concerns by supporting organizations
such as the Sierra Club (www.sierraclub.org),
Earth Justice (www.earthjustice.org)
and the California League of Conservation Voters (www.ecovote.org).
