Join us in our efforts to “change the world
one roof at a time”.
Sun Light and Power Co. has been in business since 1976,
designing and building solar hot-water, radiant floor and
photovoltaic systems. We have built PV systems ranging
from 2KW battery back-up residential systems to 100KW grid-tied,

4 NABCEP certified employees and three SEI alums) installing commercial
and residential PV systems in the greater San Francisco Bay
Area. We’re a Berkeley-based certified green
company with a mission “to change the world
one roof at a time.”

and staying at the forefront of cutting edge technology. Our staff includes a
team of experienced and highly qualified engineers, electricians, and installers.
SL&P and its staff maintain the following licenses and certifications:
- SL&P holds both B and C-46 (solar) licenses issued
by the State of California
- We have two Licensed C-10 contractors on staff
- We employee three engineers (a mix of electrical, mechanical
and professional)

(For more info re: NABCEP, visit the North American Board
of Certified Energy Practitioners™ website: http://www.nabcep.org/ )
Environmental Commitment
SL&P is the first renewable energy company in Alameda
County to become a member of the Certified Green Business
program. We believe you will find that our commitment to
preserving the environment, to “green building” techniques,
and to the well being of our community is unsurpassed in
the solar industry. Sun Light and Power is a member of Build
It Green a/k/a “BIG” (http://www.build-green.org),
a non-profit organization committed to expanding the market
for healthy, durable, energy and resource-efficient housing
in the Bay Area. BIG provides a comprehensive program for
implementing green building through on-going outreach, education,
training and market development. In our efforts to
live and work “green”, we:
- Use recycled paper products and non-toxic cleaning products
- Recycle all possible metals (including wiring, scrap
aluminum, copper pipes)
- Recycle or re-use all paper and cardboard (including
the packaging clients’ PV components are shipped
in)
- Rely primarily on the sun and skylights for our indoor
lighting
- Utilize a solar hot water system to provide 100% of our
hot water needs including radiant heat
- Use low- or no-V.O.C. (volatile organic compound) interior
paints
- Run our entire office and charge an electric vehicle
with the 6.6kW PV solar power system on our roof
- Run our fleet of service vehicles on bio-diesel
- Purchase used office furniture whenever possible
- Purchase only organic fair trade coffee
- Purchase organic cotton or hemp clothing products whenever
possible
- Give away green “schwag” (logo promotional
gifts) that are either made of recycled content material
or can be re-used or recycled itself
We are also proud to have built the "ResourceFULL Showcase",
a mobile demonstration center which is routinely featured
throughout the state as an educational tool, displaying over
50 sustainable and alternative building materials.
Social Responsibility
In addition to working green, we strive to be socially responsible
by hiring full-time employees, paying a living wage, offering
benefits, and providing opportunities for life/work balance
including two weeks annual paid time off and additional unpaid
time off. Instead of subcontracting our installations, as
many contractors do in order to cut costs, we cultivate a
collaborative community of employees that is educated, well
trained, and professionally supervised. We acknowledge that
our people are the key to our success.
