Sun
Light & Power was founded in 1976, at a time
when many of us were just beginning to realize the need
to preserve and protect the world's vital resources.
Today we offer the latest in custom designed, energy
efficient technology, including state-of-the-art systems
for solar electricity and hot water, radiant heating,
earth-source heat pumps, and wind generated power.
SLP has amassed an impressive portfolio
of over five hundred installations throughout the San Francisco
Bay Area. Our success has been featured in such publications
as Sunset Magazine, the East Bay Business Times, the Journal
of Light Construction, and the book Solar House: A Guide
for the Solar Designer by Terry Galloway. We also offer
an extensive list of references, satisfied customers who
highly recommend our work.

He is president of the California Solar Energy Industries Association (CALSEIA), a nonprofit solar industry trade association committed to the advocacy of solar energy and the promotion of its Code of Ethics for solar industry professionals. He is also a 10 year board member of ADPSR (Architects, Designers, Planners for Social Responsibility. He regularly conducts seminars and classes on solar energy including a class on solar electricity at DeAnza College.
Customer Service
At Sun Light & Power we pride ourselves in providing a high level of customer service. In addition to designing and installing your system, we:
- Obtain a permit on your behalf from the city or county,
- Schedule and attend any required city or county inspections,
- Provide you a thorough orientation of your system so that you have a good understanding of how it operates.
For solar electricity systems, we also:
- Complete and submit all state rebate paperwork to the California Solar Initiative,
- Provide the option of accepting the state rebate on your behalf (so you don't have to pay Federal Income taxes on it),
- Process your PG&E paperwork so you may participate in net metering ("selling" excess power back to PG&E),
- Attend PG&E inspections if necessary.
Environmental Commitment
We believe you will find our commitment to the environment and the community unsurpassed in the solar industry. Ours is the first renewable energy company in Alameda County to become a certified Green Business. In our efforts to live and work "green", we take the following measures:
Run our entire office, and charge our electric vehicle, with the 6.6kW PV solar power system on our roof,
- Utilize a solar hot water system to provide 100% of our hot water needs,
- Run our fleet of service vehicles on bio-diesel fuel, manufactured from waste cooking oil,
- Use only recycled paper products,
- Patronize other certified green business for such things as printing, legal services, uniforms, marketing items, etc.
- Recycle or re-use all paper and cardboard (including the packaging your renewable energy system will be shipped in),
- Recycle any waste building materials we generate including wiring, scrap aluminum, copper pipes, etc,
- Supplement our indoor lighting with skylights,
- Incorporate green building methods and materials into our own office and warehouse expansions and renovations,
- …and more.
Social Responsibility
In addition to working green, we strive to be socially responsible by hiring full-time employees, paying them a living wage, and offering health benefits, a retirement plan, and paid time off. Instead of subcontracting our installations (as many contractors do in order to cut costs), we rely on a company work force that is continually trained and educated. SLP regularly sponsors the events of numerous Bay Area non-profit organizations active in the fields of affordable housing, community development, and green building. SLP employees volunteer on projects for such organizations as Grid Alternatives and Habitat for Humanity.
