In 2004, Sun Light and Power launched a
new program focused on working specifically with architects
to design renewable energy systems.
Whether your clients are building a single home, an entire
subdivision, or a block-long commercial property, we can
help them save money on their utilities.
Does your firm specialize in the design of environmentally
conscious buildings? We're looking for the best green architects
in the SF Bay Area to refer to our customers. Contact us
today if you already design with the environment in mind
and can provide us with a list of buildings that have been
built using green materials or practices.
P.S. We are pleased to provide a fee discount to members
of ADPSR (www.adpsr-norcal.org)
and the SBA (www.sustainablebiz.org).
The Lunchtime Lecture Series
Is your firm interested in a lunchtime lecture about renewable
energy? Our solar energy experts have
put together a presentation specifically for architects. Its
a power-packed hour of information that we can take
to your location, for FREE! Some of the points we'll
address are:

- The latest and greatest in solar design,
- State rebates and federal tax incentives
- Return on investment (ROI) and your clients' final
cost,
- Integrating PV with a building's existing electrical
system,
- Installation practices,
- What's new and what's next in renewables
To schedule a lunchtime presentation,
contact Sun Light and Power's Eric Nyman at
(510) 845-2997. Then send a sign-up sheet
around to your colleagues, and remind them to bring a
brown bag lunch.
Sizing a system:
As a rule of thumb, 1kW of PV usually requires
approximately 75 square feet of space. Of course, the actual
size of an array depends on the type of module used and
the amount of power it was designed to produce. Systems
may be sized in order to meet a variety of goals:
- To create the amount of power needed to virtually
eliminate one's electricity bill.
- To meet a specific budget.
- To utilize a specific area of one's property.
Full-sized
systems, those designed to provide all or nearly all the
power required to power a home, are sized based on existing
or projected power usage. In order to determine average
power usage, have your client do one of the following:
- Renovations
Gather the electrical bills for the past twelve months and find the number
of kilowatt hours (Kwh) used. For PG&E customers, this number is listed
as ³Usage² under the ³Electric Account Detail² section.
Calculate your average monthly usage and then give us a call, or simply
call us with your bills in hand and we'll do the calculations for you.
We'll estimate the system size needed to cover that amount of usage plus
the amount needed for your addition/renovation, and we'll provide a rough
price estimate over the phone.
- New Construction
Contact us for a copy of our Load Calculation worksheet. Your clients can
work with their builder and lighting designer to obtain estimates of the
amount of power the home will consume.
P.S. Please remind your clients that using
proper insulation, Energy Star appliances, and fluorescent
light bulbs are the first steps toward saving energy.
Site Inspections
SLP is happy to provide a free consultation
to residential customers within 20 miles of Berkeley. In
that inspection, our sales consultant will determine whether
or not your client's home or business is a good candidate
for renewable energy. We'll determine the orientation of
the roof or another prospective location, measure that
area, and help determine which loads (appliances, machinery,
lighting, etc.), if any, they may want connected to a battery
back-up system.
We'll create a Proposal and Contract that
takes the site specifics and your client's budget into
consideration. Our Contract will provide details regarding
modules, components, estimated system output and price.
Contact us today at (510) 845-2997 to set
up an appointment for a site inspection.
