Sun Light + Power is a solar power integrator based in Berkeley, California, and have been in continuous operation since 1976. We offer Total Energy Solutions™, providing our customers with smart, cost-effective energy packages which combine solar electricity (photovoltaics), and solar water heating (solar thermal), along with energy efficiency and conservation.

We work with business owners, non-profits and homeowners, architects and general contractors, utilities and municipalities, as well as on new and existing buildings, carports, and other structures. Our staff is proficient in design, installation, utility interconnection, rebates and incentives, permitting and inspections, maintenance and repairs - to help keep a project on schedule, on time and on budget, from start to finish.

We strive to provide a hassle-free, satisfying experience for our customers. Our Design Consultants are trained to educate and inform you about your options, so you can make an intelligent decision. And once you've made that decision, we will work tirelessly and expertly to take your project from concept to completion.

Who We Are
The first thing that you’ll notice when you visit our offices is that we “Walk the Talk”. Before you even enter the building, you’ll see our black Trombe Wall space heater, a passive solar system which provides winter warmth for the office. Step back a little and you'll see the tops of our solar water heating collectors and our photovoltaic system, which provide our hot water and electricity. Perhaps on the street you’ll see one of our 100% biodiesel fueled trucks heading out, filled with solar equipment for one of our customers.

Inside, you may notice the 100% natural wool carpet, the skylights which provide natural light for the office, and the Hermann Miller office furnishings, which we purchased pre-owned. As you walk through the offices, you’ll see our efficient fluorescent lighting systems, including a photo-sensitive system in the skylit hallways that keeps the lights off when the sun is shining through. Photos of many of our projects adorn the walls, constantly reminding us of the meaningful, high quality work that we do. When you arrive at our conference room, you’ll see carpet made from recycled soda bottles, and an elegant tempered glass conference table made from insulated glass recycled from a sunroom.

If you want a look behind the scenes, we can show you our boiler, converted to use biodiesel fuel to heat the radiant floor of the office, and to provide fossil-fuel free back-up for our domestic hot water system. We’ll also show off our natural cooling scheme, which keeps the offices cool in the summer without the use of any conventional air conditioning equipment other than a small, low-energy swamp cooler.

All of this is the culmination of the vision and the work of our founder and president, Gary Gerber. Not only has Gary been actively involved in shaping the solar industry in California for over 33 years, he has also been at the forefront of the green building and sustainability movement, and it shows in every aspect of how the company operates.
