After more than forty years in the solar industry and eighteen years of experience installing solar electric panels, the recruitment staff at Sun Light & Power isn’t at all surprised to learn about the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ recent announcement. Solar Installer is the number one fastest-growing job in the U.S. from now until 2026. And, according to our partners at SunPower, solar will create 1 in 50 new jobs in the future.
Over 100% Job Growth
“Skilled tradespeople are in high demand,” said Molly Rogers, Director of Team Support at Sun Light & Power. “We hire from a wide variety of technical and training backgrounds. We do a great deal of on-the-job training, and we seek to create diverse teams that include women,” she added.
The job market for installers is projected to grow by 105% between 2016 and 2026, followed by Wind Turbine Service Technician, which is estimated to grow at 96% over the same period.
“These are great jobs for people who are technically inclined, are willing to learn about complex electrical and mechanical equipment, and are able to work at heights,” said Rogers.

Educational paths that lead to a career in solar PV installation include:
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners)
- SEI (Solar Energy International) online courses
- Skyline College’s Solar Technology & Business Associate Program
- Diablo Valley College’s Energy Systems Program
- The Solar Living Institute’s hands-on and online training
- And, entry-level energy efficiency training with Rising Sun Energy Center’s Green House Call program.
