1. How Much Energy Do You Use?
Your electricity usage will determine the number of solar panels and solar batteries that you need. Don’t spend time estimating your daily electricity usage. Collect your electricity bills from the past 12 months and let Sun Light & Power analyze them. We will determine the number and type of solar panels needed to match your typical and total energy consumption throughout the year. If your system includes solar battery backup, we will calculate how many batteries and solar panels will be required to power your critical loads during an outage.
2. Should You Replace Your Roof Before Installing Solar Panels?
After solar panels are installed, you won’t be able to replace the roof without having them removed. Quality solar panels can be expected to perform very well for at least 20 years. If your roof is at the end of its lifespan, it may be cost effective to replace it before installing solar panels or have both done at the same time. Your roof’s type, age, slope, and immediate environment can all affect the solar system design. Sun Light & Power will inspect your roof, confirm its condition, and determine whether the roof structure and framing can support the additional weight of solar panels.
3. How Old Is Your Electrical System?
Residential solar systems need an electrical system that is both strong and modern enough to support solar PV and/or battery storage. In most cases, we can design a safe and code-compliant electrical solution. However, some older homes have outdated electrical panels, fuses, wiring or meters that need to be replaced before solar can be installed. If you have had electrical work done on your home, try to locate the paperwork. Either way, we will be able to tell you whether you need to make any changes to your electrical system before we finalize your solar design.
4. What Are Your Energy Goals?
Will your solar system meet your renewable energy goals?
Reduce electricity costs
Achieve greater energy independence
Protect against PSPS, flex power alerts, and unexpected power outages
Offset higher time-of-use rates and peak demand charges with battery storage
Reduce energy consumption and live a more sustainable life
Contribute to a cleaner local environment
Help stabilize California’s electric grid
Create an all-electric smart home
Power an at-home EV charger with solar
Plan ahead to get the most out of your home solar investment. If you have specific goals in mind, we can design and build a custom solar energy system to meet your needs.
